Looking back at the individual displays which made City’s Barclays Women’s Super League and FA Cup double possible in 2025/26.

The Blues enjoyed a phenomenal campaign last season which culminated in us winning the major honours in the same term for the first time across our illustrious history.

2026/27 WOMEN’S SEASON TICKET HUB

In the wake of that iconic success in what was Andrée Jeglertz’s first season at the Joie Stadium helm, we’re looking back at the performances which made it happen.

Following our goalkeepers and defenders, next up is midfielders…

GRACE CLINTON

Appearances: 20

England international Grace Clinton secured her switch to City on the summer transfer window’s deadline day.

And she made an immediate impact when netting on her Blues debut in a 5-1 victory over Spurs in our third outing of the season.

After Kerolin burst down the left wing in the capital, the Brazilian squared to the 23-year-old who met the ball first-time and coolly slotted into the bottom corner.

Although minor injury issues limited her availability somewhat in the months that followed, Clinton still made her impression felt across the campaign.

Alongside her tireless work rate on the field, she was crucial to Jeglertz’s style of play when retrieving the ball and thwarting opposition attacks in the aspects which sometimes go unnoticed.

In the WSL alone, the English midfielder averaged the most interceptions per 90 minutes (two) and produced the second-highest amount of tackles per 90 (3.5) among her City teammates.

As well as her debut delight, one of her many standout displays came in the Subway Women’s League Cup quarter-final against West Ham where she scored and registered an assists in a 5-1 win in east London.

LAURA COOMBS

Appearances: 20

The 2025/26 campaign would prove to be the last in professional football for Laura Coombs who announced she was retire after the curtain fell on the season.

And lifting the Double was a fitting way for the former England international to end her phenomenal career in the game.

Not only did she set the standards in training and on matchdays, but she led by example on the field too with classy and composed displays which had defined her illustrious career.

She kicked off our triumphant FA Cup campaign with a standout display in the fourth-round victory over Bournemouth with two goals and an assist in a 6-0 success on the south coast.

Her experience then proved vital in the relentless pursuit of the WSL title and in the prestigious cup competition for a squad who were experiences the rigours of competing for trophies for the first time.

Coombs then made it a final WSL appearance to remember in our 2025/26 top-flight finale when she came from the bench to round off the scoring in our 4-1 win against West Ham.

In the closing stages of the contest, she expertly controlled a dropping ball from the sky before sending it looping into the net on the half-volley.

SAM COFFEY

Appearances: 10

Sam Coffey arrived in January from Portland Thorns and seamlessly transitioned to life in English football.

From her debut in City’s 2-1 win over London City Lionesses, she showcased all the qualities which make a Unites States regular and one of world football’s finest operators.

Among the players in the Barclays Women’s Super League to play 500 or more minutes in 2025/26, she ranked first for possession won per 90 (7.9) and among midfielders in the top-flight, Coffey sat second in the completed passes per 90 (51.2) chart.

And with Yui Hasegawa absent during much of March due to her participation in Japan’s Asian Cup campaign, the expertise and presence of the American midfielder meant the Blues still remained unbeaten across the month in all competitions.

Coffey was then nominated for March’s Etihad Player of the Month due to her displays across the 31-day period, but perhaps the performance that typified her the most came in our 5-2 win over Spurs at the Joie Stadium.

Against the north Londoners, she produced a staggering 10 ball recoveries, four tackles and five successful duels won as well as registering a 98% pass accuracy.

LAURA BLINDKILDE BROWN

Appearances: 29

In her 18 months at City ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, Laura Blindkilde Brown had shown glimpses of her fantastic ability and potential, but last season is where she truly came to the fore.

After starting in the engine room alongside Hasegawa against Brighton in our second outing of the term, she never looked back and formed an effective partnership with the Japan international.

Of the midfielders to have played 1000 WSL minutes or more last season, only Erin Cuthbert (1.6) won possession in the final third more often per 90 minutes than the England international.

Leading the press combined with her immense passing range and desire to receive the ball from deep and drive forward made her one of the top-flight standout performers en route to our title triumph.

She scooped September’s Etihad Player of the Month award and scored in a 4-1 win over London City Lionesses in our final outing that month, but her display in the 4-0 FA Cup final win over Brighton was one of her most accomplished performances.

Playing 77 minutes at Wembley, the England international completed 81% of her attempted passes including five into the final third and also produced four tackles and five ball recoveries as Jeglertz’s team completed the Double.

SYDNEY LOHMANN

Appearances: 15

A serial winner during her time with Bayern Munich, Lohmann added the WSL and FA Cup to her sparkling trophy cabinet at the end of her first season with City after making the switch from the German giants ahead of the campaign.

She made her debut in our narrow opening day defeat to Chelsea, but the 25-year-old showcased the battling nature to her game at Stamford Bridge which would be a theme to her displays across the rest of the season.

Frustratingly for the German international, her season was limited due to injury woes but Lohmann still averaged the most WSL tackles per 90 for City with 5.2.

Back-to-back displays – first against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final then in our WSL finale against West Ham – would have provided comfort to the midfielder who looked back to her best.

In the cup competition’s last-four, she came onto the field in extra-time and worked tirelessly in the engine room to help us win 3-2 after coming from two-goals down.

Then against the Irons, she played the entirety of the second half and produced five ball recoveries and completed three passes into the final third as signed off in style with a 4-1 win.

YUI HASEGAWA

Appearances: 29

Throughout the 2025/26 campaign, Hasegawa once again produced the eye-catching displays which those in world football and of a sky blue persuasion have come accustomed to.

This time, however, she lifted the major honours which her magical performances have been deserving of since she arrived at the Joie Stadium in the summer of 2022.

Afforded more attacking freedom in Jeglertz’s system, the Japan international tallied her highest amount of goal involvements in a single season for City with eight.

Her intentions in the final third were clear to see from the Blues’ second outing of the term when she arrived late in the final third to collect the ball and slot home the winner in a 2-1 victory over Brighton at the Joie.

This, coupled with her stellar defensive work, not only thwarted opposition attacks, but also ignited our own which is reflected in Hasegawa initiating the most open play sequences ending with a shot (37) in the 2025/26 WSL with six of those ending in a goal.

As well as this, she made the most through balls in the top-flight last term (9) and the second most interceptions (35), as well as attempting the fifth most passes (1097).

Among a series of standout displays, one of her best came in City’s clinical 6-0 win over Leicester at the Joie in February.

After a Shaw strike and Vivianne Miedema double gave us a commanding lead, she netted our fourth of the evening before setting up Aoba Fujino who rounded off the scoring.
