Gareth Taylor preview
Previewing this weekend’s match at the Academy Stadium, Taylor spoke about our opposition Reading and the challenge they will bring to Manchester.
“The make up of this league with 12 teams, you have 4 teams who play for nothing which is quite rare. More often than not you usually have play off or promotion or teams staring at the drop zone,” explained Taylor.
“Reading will fight for their lives and control what we do. Better for us in terms of playing our style and again if they want to sit in and defend I’ve seen that. They played a back four v Everton, went ahead and went to a back five and Everton turned it around.
“Being aware of all the situations we can encounter and nothing changes from what we do.”
Form Guide
City come into the tie in impressive form, having lost just one of our last fifteen league matches.
Gareth Taylor‘s side currently sit second in the table as a result, just three points off league leaders, Manchester United.
Reading, meanwhile, are searching for a first league victory in five when they travel to the Academy Stadium.
The Royals are 11th in the table, one point and one place above the WSL relegation zone.
Last time out
City returned to winning ways after the international break by beating West Ham United in an eight-goal thriller.
An early Chloe Kelly brace put Gareth Taylor‘s side in the driver’s seat, but the Hammers responded swiftly through Emma Snerle.
Laura Coombs‘ clinical header on the stroke of half-time restored our two-goal advantage, with Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Steph Houghton adding further gloss to the scoreline.

The visitors reduced the deficit once again through Lisa Evans, but the final say would go to Mary Fowler, who headed home her first WSL goal with ten to play.
Reading were equally quick out of the traps in their recent league clash with Everton, racing into a two-goal lead inside 20 minutes.
However, they would eventually be beaten 3-2 by the Toffees in their latest fixture.
Previous meeting
City extended our winning run to five matches with a 3-0 victory over the Royals back in November 2022.
It took until the second 45 for Gareth Taylor‘s side to breach the visitors’ stubborn rearguard, but an own goal from Emma Mukandi broke the deadlock soon after the restart.
The Reading defender’s bad luck continued when she turned into her own net once again on the hour, before Shaw headed home Fowler’s cross to complete the scoring with 15 to play at the Madejski.
