LAST TIME OUT
City’s recent dominance of the Women’s FA Cup was brought to an end in a 3-0 semi-final defeat to Chelsea on Sunday at the Academy Stadium.
The visitors booked their place in December’s Wembley final courtesy of first half strikes from Erin Cuthbert and Melanie Leupolz, before a late Beth England header completed the scoring.
City continued to press for a route back into the game, enjoying the majority of the second half play, but were unable to carve out any truly clear-cut chances to break Chelsea’s stubborn resistance.
PREVIOUS ENCOUNTER
The two sides have not met since July 2015 when Nick Cushing’s side retained their place at the top of Group Two in the Continental Cup with a thumping 5-0 home win.
Braces from Krystle Johnston and Nikita Parris, plus a goal from Izzy Christiansen, secured the victory, as the holders continued their 100% record since the season restarted after the historic World Cup.
On a comfortable night at the Academy Stadium, the 2014 Conti Cup winners produced a thoroughly dominant and professional display, peppering the visitors’ goal with efforts as the away side struggled to venture out of their own half.

How it stands
After one game, City currently sit top of Group B in the Northern Section, following our 5-1 triumph over Everton.
Manchester United are second, having earned a ‘bonus’ point for a penalty shoot-out win over Durham, after the two sides had played out a 2-2 draw in normal time.
The Wildcats earned a point from that result, while Everton sit bottom with fourth-placed Leicester City yet to play.
FORM GUIDE
City head into the game on the back of a mixed run of results and Sunday’s FA Cup defeat at home to Chelsea.
Durham are top of the Championship, having enjoyed a fine start to 2021/22 with 18 points from their opening seven games, winning all bar one.
