Manchester City goalkeeper Sandy MacIver has revealed her recovery from injury is ‘going well’.

The 24-year-old picked up the knock while on international duty with England in April, forcing her to withdraw from the Lionesses’ squad ahead of their victory over Brazil and defeat to Australia last month.

Unfortunately, the issue has cut her season short with two Barclays Women’s Super League matches remaining of the term and Gareth Taylor’s side embroiled in a fierce race for Champions League qualification.

However, the impressive stopper has remained characteristically positive while working immensely hard at the CFA to return to full fitness.

And MacIver explained she’s well on the road to a full recovery while thanking her colleagues and friends for their support.

“It’s going well, first couple of weeks,” she declared.

“Ideally, it’s never nice being injured but unfortunately these things happen in sport and it’s just something I’ve got to overcome. I’m trying to remain positive and so far things have been going well.

“It happening in the international break was a bit harder because I came back to CFA and it was a bit quiet but the girls have been great.

“All the staff have been really supportive and I’ve definitely got a good enough support system around me to help me mentally more than anything.”

City’s title aspirations took a sizeable blow last time out as we narrowly lost 2-1 to Liverpool on the road.

The defeat leaves us in fourth place in the table, but level on points with third-placed Arsenal who currently occupy the last European place.

Undoubtedly there is plenty still to play for in our final WSL assignments of the season in fixtures against Manchester United and Everton.

And MacIver says the squad are looking forward to our final two challenges of the term.

She added “It’s exciting we’ve got two games left now and for us, each one is a must-win.

“It is time to get our heads down and there is a bit of pressure on us, but these are the kind of challenges we want to be involved with.

“I think mathematically, if I’m right, we do need a bit of help elsewhere but we have to focus on ourselves and if we don’t get the results we want then everything else is irrelevant.”
