Vivianne Miedema said there were multiple clubs after her signature this summer but stressed that City were top of her list.

Miedema was out of contract after seven incredible seasons at Arsenal where she built a reputation as one of the very best forwards in the WSL.

The two-time WSL Golden Boot winner had options as she looked to make the next step in her illustrious career.

But after learning of City’s culture on and off the pitch, she had no hesitation in heading to Manchester and an exciting link-up with Gareth Taylor’s side.

“I spoke to multiple clubs in England and also abroad but when I started speaking to City, I got really, really excited,” she told media at her Etihad unveiling event alongside men’s signing Savinho.

“Mostly by the way they play but also by how other players talk about the club and about how things were going.

“I want to challenge myself. I know this wasn’t the easy option, moving within England but I got really excited about being part of the City team.

“That’s the reason really why I followed my gut feeling and went with City.

“In my career, I have always made decisions based off the whole picture – not just football but also off the pitch too. This time around, City covered both of them.

“I am really excited to be here and wear a City shirt this season and hopefully get back to my own level. And at the end of the season, I hope we are sitting here with a prize.

“I have been having contact with clubs for a long time. I have been speaking to different clubs and different coaches and it was an ongoing process for a couple of months.

“A decision like that is not made overnight. There are a lot of things to consider especially for me, having built a life in the UK.

“You look at the whole picture and where you think you’re going to get the space to allow yourself to be back to your best playing ways. City were top of that list.”

Miedema, the WSL’s record markswoman, is relishing donning the sky blue shirt now and can’t wait to hear the roar of the Joie Stadium crowd on matchdays.

The 28-year-old stressed the importance of the fantastic fanbase as City look to take that next step and secure our second-ever WSL title in 2024/25.

“The difference between winning the league title or not winning the league title can be the fans,” she added.

“So what I will say is please come to the stadium every second week and come to away games, be there, support us in good and in bad times.

“We really appreciate it and feel it on the pitch.

“It can help us do that extra step and play even better.

“I love playing in front of a lot of fans and I hope they all come to the stadium every game.”
