Abdukodir Khusanov has risen rapidly over the past couple of years.
After coming to prominence at Uzbek side Bunyodkor, Khusanov he moved to Belarus side Energetik-BGU aged 18.
In June 2023, Khusanov won his first full cap for Uzbekistan, coming on as a sub against Oman and at the time he joined City, he had already won 18 caps for his country.
The young centre-back’s performance caught the attention of Ligue 1 side Lens who signed him up in July 2023 after just 37 appearances for Energetik-BGU and he became the first Uzbek to play in the French top-flight as a result.
Fast and powerful, Khusanov enjoys a physical battle and is an excellent tackler.
Arriving at City in January 2025, Khusanov immediately showed signs he was developing his game under Pep Guardiola, while honing his skills in training alongside the likes of fellow central defenders Ruben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji.
A difficult debut was soon a distant memory with 10 appearances before the end of the campaign and a continually rising stock in world football.
