Matias Bonanno was City Esports’ first signing ahead of the newly branded EA SPORTS FC 24 franchise release.
The Argentine joined the Club for the 2023/24 campaign, having most recently represented Team Heretics and Real Betis in the eLaLiga Santander.
Matias burst onto the pro scene with Argentinos Juniors in November 2019 before moving to KRU Esports almost a year later.
With KRU Esports –founded by City legend Sergio Aguero – the Argentine won the 2021 eLibertadores and 3 South American championships, fighting off some of the best Brazilian Pro Players in the process as he went unbeaten in the competition.
Following his triumphs in South America, Matias moved to Europe, signing for Team Heretics and representing Real Zaragoza for the 2021/22 eLaLiga season, which is where he also met City’s new esports coach Edu Castellano.
In his first season in eLaLiga, Matias finished second in the eLaLiga Cup and progressed to the League Grand Final. To end an already impressive campaign, he won the Global Series Team of the Season Cup and placed second in the eChampions League.
Switching his allegiance to Real Betis for the 2022/23 campaign, Matias finished second in the eLaLiga Cup for a second successive campaign before going on to win the eLaLiga Grand Final in May.
Matias has also represented Argentina on the esports stage, playing in three consecutive FIFAe Nations Cup finals.
In March 2024, Bonanno became the first pro to win three different domestic titles after he and Tekkz led City Esports to the Club’s second ePremier League title.
