Pep Guardiola has praised Aymeric Laporte’s attitude ahead of Monday’s trip to Tottenham.
Laporte has played every minute of every Premier League and Champions League game this season, the only member of Guardiola’s squad to do so.
He’s looked exceptional throughout, earning praise across the board for his performance level.
And ahead of Monday’s game at Tottenham, Guardiola admitted the balance he brings to the back four with his left foot has been key to our form so far this season.
He believes the quality Laporte possesses with his left foot means City can attack swiftly, giving us additional potency in our passing game.
“First of all, his level,” Guardiola said when asked why Laporte has become a permanent fixture in the side.
“Today, for example, training session he was so focused. Every action was there.
“I am seeing the same with Vincent John and Nico, but especially with his left foot, playing on the left side. He gives us alternative for the build-up quicker and faster than the other ones.
“When you receive to go to the right, you have to go inside. In the left, you go to that side. It helps us to create this build up. With the right, it is a little bit more complicated.
“That would be one of the reasons why. Of course, we have other alternatives. To play Vincent [Kompany] or Nico [Otamendi]. He is not going to play all the season all the minutes but he doesn’t go to the national team. He has a break during two weeks. In this period, he is fitter and can play regularly so when the int breaks finish, come December, January, February, everyone is going to play.
