On this day in 1996, Georgi Kinkladze scored one the most iconic goals in Manchester City history.

It was a goal which encapsulated the Georgian’s mesmerising talent, as he picked up the ball on the right and danced his way through several challenges before dinking it over Southampton goalkeeper Dave Beasant.

Kinkladze grabbed a brace as Alan Ball’s side won 2-1 at Maine Road and wrote his name into City folklore thanks to the artistry of that wonderful second goal.

The midfielder recalls the moment fondly in Kinkladze: The Magician of Maine Road, a 46-minute feature about his time at the Club, which is available to watch now on CITY+.

“It really is one of the best goals of my entire career,” he says, whilst we also hear the thoughts of former team-mates Michael Brown and Ian Brightwell, as well as several fans who were privileged to be there at Maine Road to witness an unforgettable goal.

You can listen to their recollections in the extract from the documentary above.
