Pep Guardiola says honing a more ruthless cutting edge in front of goal will be key to City’s hopes of regaining the Premier League title next term.

After breaking a host of domestic records during back-to-back title winning campaigns in 2017/18 and 2018/19, City relinquished the crown to Liverpool this season.

In a wide-ranging interview, the boss reflected on the lessons he has learned this campaign, the exciting development of Phil Foden and how he expects the 2020/21 season to be the most competitive yet.

“What I want (from) my team is to compete. Football is about details and you have to be clinical,” Guardiola asserted. “Sometimes this season we were not good enough.

“(Next season) I think there will be more teams there, I think Manchester United will be there, Chelsea and Tottenham. Arsenal under Mikel (Arteta) will play better for sure, Leicester too.

“That’s why this league is so different as there are five or six teams that can win (the title) for sure. In another country that’s not possible. That’s what makes this league so nice.”
