In Cape Town, South Africa, Young Leaders are working to improve water access in underserved local communities, such as Khayelitsha – the largest township in the Western Cape.
Up to 40 million litres of raw sewage is pumped into the sea at Mouille Point on the Western Cape daily. 1
Atipila is a Young Leader from the community, leading projects on two main issues identified in Cape Town: water scarcity and water justice.
“We’re using football to educate young people in Cape Town on these water issues and how we can tackle them.
“At the end of the programme, we would like to see our Water Heroes reach other participants, running awareness campaigns within their schools and community and advocating for their human right for access to clean water.”
There are currently 90 young girls enrolled on the programme at a local primary school in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.
