In Mumbai, India, Young Leaders are working to improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
Through this project, Young Leaders have been going into the local community to understand the water-related issues that people are facing.
In India 88 million people lack access to safe water – that’s enough to fill the Mumbai Football Arena over 4500 times. 1
Varsha is a Young Leader from the community who has witnessed first-hand the impact that this project is having:
“I feel motivated when I see that I am able to better others’ lives by creating awareness from what I have learnt.
We use football as a tool to tell everybody how we are finding solutions. We create awareness regarding issues related to water within the community.”
At the start of the 2021/22 season, Xylem also installed a clean water tower in Mumbai, which produces a safe and long-term supply of fresh drinking water for 1,800 people per day.
This Cityzens Giving project is delivered in partnership with Magic Bus India Foundation, and generously supported by Xylem.
