City boss Gareth Taylor says the incentive of returning to Wembley with fans present will be an extra motivator in Sunday’s 2021 FA Women’s’ Cup semi-final at home to Chelsea.

Taylor’s squad are looking to defend the trophy we won last year, beating Everton 3-1 in the Wembley showpiece.

However, that game was played behind closed doors in the midst of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The boss says the prospect of returning to defend the Cup this time with supporters back present is a huge extra incentive – especially with the Women’s FA Cup celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

“For sure. It was a fantastic experience for a lot of people last season but it felt empty with an empty stadium, it’s a great incentive for us to get there again,” Taylor declared at his pre-match press conference.

“We experienced it with and without fans football is nothing without supporters, and it’s great to see everyone back

“It was so special for us and for me, early on in my City career to be at Wembley and be successful was the icing on the cake. It’s a competition we take seriously.

“It’s the 50 year anniversary of the competition, we’d love to be there in the final and we’ll do all we can to get there.”
