With both teams blown out of the title race by Leicester and Tottenham, the focus now is ensuring Champions League football next season for both clubs, but Kelechi says injuries have affected both teams badly over the course of 2015/16.
“Arsenal have worked hard to get where they are and like us, they’ve had a lot of injuries this season so I don’t think they’ve had a bad season at all,” said Iheanacho.
“We know as well as anyone that it makes things difficult when you lose your best players for a period of time and they’ve had to work hard to get into the position they are in now and they will come here determined and looking to prove a point.
“They are a clever, quick team and I think this will be a very tough game for us, but one we have to win. I will be up against my brother, Alex Iwobi, who I know really well from the Nigerian national team – he’s a great player and he’s looking forward to playing against us today.
“But they have great players and this will be hard for us – but we need to win it to make sure we finish in the top four so it will be just as difficult for them. I think it will be a great game and obviously we will be looking to take the three points we need.”
Kelechi is aiming to end the season on a personal high with his recent goal flurry putting him within two goals of Kevin De Bruyne who is currently the second top scorer for City with 15.
It underlines what a remarkable campaign the 19-year-old has, particularly considering he has only started nine games.
“Whatever happens between now and the final game against Swansea, it has been a great season for me and I couldn’t imagine that what’s happened so far would have happened by this point in time so I’m really happy,” said Kelechi.
“But it won’t mean anything unless I keep working hard and give it my best every time I have the opportunity. Hopefully this is just the start for me but I need to keep contributing to the team every time I play and keep on doing that.”
