Bernardo Silva reckons hard work is the best response to Manchester City's frustrating draw against Everton at the Etihad Stadium.

The Portuguese midfielder made his home debut as a second-half substitute and immediately impressed as Pep Guardiola‘s 10-man side came back from a goal down to draw 1-1 thanks to Raheem Sterling‘s volley.

Bernardo said: “It was a difficult game. Obviously, we would have liked to win and we aren’t happy but I think we played well. We started very well, we were controlling the game, but unfortunately, they managed to score in their first chance and after Kyle was sent off, things got a bit more difficult. But the team reacted very well in the second half and I believe we deserved the three points.

“Everton is always a difficult team and everyone knows that, they invested a lot this summer, they have a strong team and we knew we were going to face some difficulties, unfortunately we were capable of winning tonight but we will work to win the three points, in the next game.”

Guardiola: We never gave up

Sterling pleased with City character

Despite another difficult evening against the Toffees Bernardo was able to pick out some positives from his first taste of Premier League football at the Etihad Stadium.

“It’s a different league. The ambience is fantastic, the fans are incredible, I felt very well and at home,” the 23-year-old said.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t win, but it was an incredible experience for me. I am really enjoying it.”
