The Brazilian keeper has impressed in pre-season with his reflexes and distribution catching the eye.
Now he is desperate to begin the next chapter of his career and hoping to start with a win against the Seagulls to get City’s campaign off to a flying start.
“I think it’s going to be a difficult game, as they have been promoted to the Premier League this season and I’m sure they are going to be very motivated,” said Ederson.
“I think the Premier League is an unpredictable championship, any team can win it. We have the recent example of Leicester City, that surprised everyone as nobody expected them to win.
“But we must focus on ourselves. It’s important to start well and start winning. If we win we are going to be at the top of the table or close to it as we begin our fight for the Premier League trophy.
“That’s what we want. That’s why the first game must be a win. We have a lot of quality here and that is going to help the team.
“I think there is a good mixture between established players and young players, and that’s going to produce results in the future.”
Ederson believes his compatriot Gabriel Jesus is set for an exciting first full season with the Blues, too.
Jesus joined City last January and then missed 10 weeks with a broken metatarsal and finished the campaign with seven goals from 11 starts.
“I think Gabriel Jesus can score a lot of goals this season,” said Ederson.
“That’s what we expect from him. I think it’s going to be a good championship for him and he is going to excel a lot.”
Ederson admitted he spoke to Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus before joining City, adding: “Yeah, I spoke with them, I knew them from the Brazilian national side.
“They told me this is a really big club with a nice history. They also told me about the city. Manchester is a bit different from the city I used to live in - it’s colder! But I’m settling in well here.
“Pep Guardiola is one of the best managers in the world. I was very happy when I found out he wanted to count on me. So, I didn’t think twice when I got the proposal from City.
“He wants me to keep doing the same style of game, starting the build-up. He said that as of now I’m going to have more options in the build-up, to play both short and long balls.
“On top of that, he wants me to enjoy it. I don’t feel there’s extra pressure on me. I know it’s a big responsibility considering I have become one of the most expensive goalkeepers. It doesn’t make an influence on me, maybe for others it does. I’m calm and I’m ready to help my team.”
