Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho believes Manchester City’s summer signings are adapting quickly to the demands of Pep Guardiola.
City have brought in five new faces so far – Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Danilo – with many now tipping them for title success in May.
And as the Blues prepare for their first home game of the campaign against Everton on Monday evening, Fernandinho is happy with how the squad is taking shape and says the new players have already demonstrated they are capable of excelling in Guardiola’s setup.
“We have been together for one month already,” he said.
“There are many players that have been here with Pep Guardiola from last season, we already know the way he likes to play.
“The new players that have joined the squad are learning, and they are intelligent players who get it very quickly. That’s not a problem at all.
“Of course, it will take some time to get everybody together.
“All of them [the new signings] are good. They showed it in their previous teams and we hope all of them can make the difference for us.”
Everton arrive at the Etihad having won their first Premier League game of the season at home to Stoke last weekend, before Thursday’s Europa League playoff victory over Hajduk Split.
Those results have increased the optimism surrounding the Goodison Park side who have had a busy summer, adding eight new players to an already talented squad.
Plenty of pundits feel they could now challenge for a top-four place and Fernandinho is well aware of the threat they pose.
“It’s always tough to play against a team like Everton, no matter home or away,” he said.
“They have a good team and good players. With a lot of changes they made, they are getting better, they improved a lot.
“It’s going to be a tough game on Monday night. I hope we can be ready to keep growing up and try to win our first home Premier League game.”
