Pep Guardiola managed to refresh his squad with a series of exciting transfers that has added to the squad’s overall strength across virtually all departments.
City already had a spring in their step thanks to the New Year arrival of Brazilian star Gabriel Jesus, who was signed from Palmeiras last summer and then came on board to stunning effect in January of this year.
With each successive performance, the capture of Gabriel - who had been a target for several of Europe’s top clubs - looks like being one of the most astute pieces of business in recent years.
Once the curtain came down on last season, City then looked to move smartly in the summer window, with the Club managing to get the bulk of their business done early on.
City made an immediate statement of intent by sealing a deal to bring in Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva from Monaco who, at 23, emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after attacking midfielders during the French club’s march to the French title and Champions League semi-finals last term.
Bernardo’s arrival was quickly followed by that of Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, who moved to the Etihad from Portuguese champions Benfica.
Having only just turned 24, Ederson’s best years are still ahead of him but he has already caught the eye by impressing hugely in the Club’s first three Premier League games of the season.
Ahead of the summer tour to the United States, the Club were busy again bolstering their defensive ranks with three more key additions.
England right-back Kyle Walker moved to Manchester from Premier League rivals and Kyle’s capture was quickly followed by that of fellow defender Danilo from European champions Real Madrid and French left-back Benjamin Mendy, who moved across the English Channel from Monaco.
The signings concluded a very busy summer which also saw a number of players bid farewell to the Club.
Strikers Nolito (Sevilla), Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield Town), Kelechi Iehanacho (Leicester City), Enes Unal (Villareal) and Wilfried Bony (Swansea) all moved on to embark on fresh challenges.
Long-serving right-back Pablo Zabaleta joined West Ham after nine years’ incredible service while left-back Aleksandar Kolarov also departed after seven memorable years in Manchester to join Italians Roma.
Fellow defenders Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna also moved on along with goalkeeper Willy Caballero who subsequently joined Chelsea.
Midfielders Samir Nasri (Antalyaspor) and Fernando (Galatasray) embarked on fresh challenges in Turkey while youngster Olivier Ntcham departed north of the border to join Celtic.
