Manager Pep Guardiola was left to rue a sense of deja vu after Manchester City drew with Spurs at the Etihad Stadium.

Leroy Sane and Kevin De Bruyne put City two up only for Delle Alli and Son Heung-Min to reply and rescue a point for the visitors.

Spurs’ goals came from their only two shots on target, leaving Guardiola with a frustratingly familiar feeling.

Guardiola said: “We performed outstandingly - it was a deja vu game.

“It was the same as Chelsea - we created a lot but we missed a lot of chances. It happened against Everton at home, it happened against chelsea. The players played with heart but we didn’t win.”

Guardiola was asked about the penalty appeal City had turned down after Kyle Walker tangled with Raheem Sterling.

He added: “It doesn’t matter, we had the same argument against Chelsea but we lost becasue we mised a lot of chances. When you score a goal the ref doesn’t matter, the rules here are the rules.”

City had the better of the play, creating chance after chance, but even though goals did come, Spurs battled back and were clinical with their chancess.

The Catalan boss added: “Except one or two games we’ve produced good performances this season. Tottenham - they are a brilliant team. We were able to make a huge performance and that’s when I am so so happy.... maybe in the future, for this Club, these games will make us stronger.”

New striker Gabriel Jesus made his debut as a second-half substitute and had the ball in the net, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.

He looked lively during his short cameo, as did Sane, the Germany international with a powerful performance throughout.

“Jesus has talent but alone cannot do that we have to score goals and we are not able to do that when this happens it’s impossible to win,” Guardiola reflected.

“I’m so happy for the performance from Leroy it’s not easy to come here and play, he was injured, I encourage him to keep going at that level he has special qualities for us I’m so happy for him.”
