Pep Guardiola has shuffled his pack for the visit of Burnley this afternoon.

Having named an unchanged side for the last three games, the City boss has made two changes, with Sergio Aguero coming in for Gabriel Jesus and Bernardo Silva starting in place of Raheem Sterling.

City are looking to continue their unbeaten start to the new season. They currently sit top of the Premier League table after eight matches, two points clear of Manchester United.

City team

XI: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph; Fernandinho; Bernardo, Silva, De Bruyne, Sane; Aguero

Subs: Bravo, Danilo, Sterling, Gundogan, Mangala, Jesus, Toure

Probable tactics

City’s formation is always fluid under Guardiola, who encourages his players to express themselves and move freely around the pitch.

Today’s line-up suggests a 4-1-4-1 formation, which can easily turn into an ultra-attacking 4-3-3 when City are in possession.

Fernandinho will protect the back four, with Kyle Walker and Fabian Delph expected to get forward and support City array of attacking talent.

David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are two of the Premier League’s most creative players, and they will have free roles behind Aguero, who leads the line.

Possible milestones

Remember, Aguero remains just one goal short of equalling the Club record for goals scored. Eric Brook currently tops the charts with 177, a record set in 1938.

And should City beat Sean Dyche’s side, it would equal the Club’s current record for consecutive wins across all competitions (11).

Burnley line-up

Burnley sharp on the road

Burnley’s away record left as lot to be desired last season – but their form on the road in this campaign has been exceptional.

They remain undefeated on their travels having taken points from Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton.

They’ve collected eight points away from home, which is already one more than they managed throughout the whole of last season.

Facts and stats

City have averaged 3.2 goals-per-game across their last 10 league meetings with Burnley, including hitting them for six on two occasions (6-0 March 1999, 6-1 April 2010).

This is Burnley’s best ever start to a Premier League campaign after eight games (13 points), and their highest return at this stage of a top-flight season since 1973-74 (15 points, adjusted 3pts/win).

City have won their last three home league games all by a five-goal margin, with only two teams in the history of English league football winning four in a row by five or more goals – Aston Villa in September 1899 and Everton in November 1931.

City have scored 5+ goals in six league games in 2017 – only Chelsea (7) in 2010 have netted 5+ goals in more Premier League games in a calendar year.

City are the first English top-flight team to score 29 goals in their first eight league games of the season since Everton in 1894-95 (30). The record for most goals scored after nine top-flight games is jointly held by Sunderland in 1892-93 and Blackburn in 1889-90 (40 goals).
