Pep Guardiola was delighted to come away from The Hawthorns with another hard-fought victory.

The City boss believes his team should have won more comfortably, but was happy with the overall display and, most importantly, another three points on the road.

The Blues have a 100% record away from home and have now won six on the trot in a run that stretches back to last May.

“We didn’t panic when it was 1-1 and we didn’t panic when it went to 3-2 in the last minute so we made a good performance and I’m happy,” said Pep.

“We did really well in a lot of areas today and we deserved to win.

“West Brom created just three chances and scored two goals whereas we created so many but didn’t take them - but that’s football, it’s OK and so big congratulations to my team.

“It is a difficult place to come and win and West Brom are a complicated side to play against so I am really happy, but we are still only just five points ahead so nothing has changed.

“Tony Pulis knows his team’s strengths and the best way to stop them controlling the long balls, the second balls or hurting you from corners, free-kicks, throw-ins and crosses in to the box is to keep the ball and deny them those opportunities.

“They are masters at causing problems from those situations and are excellent at what they do.”

City’s outstanding performer Leroy Sane was also praised by the boss who added: “He’s a guy with a special talent who makes great runs in behind, but he’s still young and there are many, many things he can improve on and we are delighted to be able to help him.

“To have players like Raheem come on and score gives me a lot of confidence. When you are trying to win titles and trophies, you want to have a very strong bench and we have that.”

Looking ahead to City’s important Champions League clash with Napoli, Pep added: “We need one more win to qualify but we are going to the team that are leading Serie A and everybody knows the type of football they play in their own stadium so it’s going to be very difficult, but it’s a great opportunity for us to book our place and we’re going to try our best to do it.”
