A wonderful second-half display at Wembley helped City sweep Arsenal aside 3-0 with Kompany and David Silva both on target after the break after Sergio Agüero had given City a 1-0 half-time lead with a delicious chip.
The victory was the first trophy of Pep Guardiola‘s Etihad reign and with the club riding high in the Premier League and also in the last 16 of the Champions League there are hopes for more silverware this season.
And Vinny, who has battled back from several long injury lay-offs over the last few years and delivered a man-of-the-match display to lead City to a third League Cup success in five years, also admitted it made victory taste all the sweeter.
“It was funny as before the game I thought I was going to score,” the City skipper revealed.
“I came close on the day and there was some luck but also a lot of self-belief.
“It was a difficult game but we did really well in controlling the space and I’m really proud of the team performance and winning 3-0 at Wembley is a great result against any opponent.
“I’ve been in the game 15 years and you always have to be ready.
“I’ve been training well and supporting the lads when I’m not playing and when I play I give it everything I have.
“If I look at my personal situation, days like today make every minute’s hard work worthwhile.
“Every chance you have you have to take and today I did it and the team did it so new are very happy.”
