The French central defender capped a superb individual display by scoring a vital second half header as City twice fought back to claim a 2-2 draw and so seal our place in the last 16 knockout stages.
It was merely the latest in a series of impressive performances by Laporte since he joined City from Athletic Bilbao in January.
And Walker described the 24-year as a hugely important component in the Blues’ back-line.

“Aymeric’s done well. We practise set-plays and he is a key figure in them,” said Walker.
“He pops up in the right places, which shows he is listening to the coaches and is working hard.”
It was an enthralling match at the Groupama Stadium with Lyon dominating the first half but City showing our quality after the break.
And Walker said the way City twice fought back from falling behind – with Maxwel Cornet twice scoring for Lyon before Sergio Aguero added to Laporte‘s header – spoke volumes as to the collective character in the Blues’ squad.
“They gave us a good game at the Etihad so we knew it would be a tough game,” Walker added.
“They have good players in good areas and quick players but we got a good draw.
“That shows the character and belief in the dressing room. Important players come good at the right time.
“Lyon are technically good and quick and strong, that’s why they hurt us at the Etihad and that’s why we had point to prove.
“There are still things we have to work on, it is completely different to Premier League. Still things we need to switch on to. But we’re through and hopefully we can get a good draw.”
