The 178th Manchester derby proved a tight, tense affair in a fraught first 45 minutes at Old Trafford which ended goalless.
Rather than panic however, City maintained our collective composure and earned our reward after the break with two superb goals from Bernardo Silva and substitute Leroy Sane.
The strikes not only secured a third successive league win at Old Trafford but, more importantly, saw us retake to spot in the Premier League and open up a one-point gap on Liverpool with both sides having three games left to play.
And captain Kompany hailed City’s strength of character and composure despite the huge pressure which was riding on the game.
“Patience was everything,” said the City skipper.
“We didn’t start as well as we’d have liked it but in these kinds of games it that can happen,” said the City skipper
“We stayed calm and we defended well when we needed to and in the second half we got into our rhythm.

“In the first half we were creating chances and in the second half we were there to score goals.”
However, despite the victory leaving the title race in our own hands, the Belgian defensive colossus says there is still plenty of work to do for Pep Guardiola’s squad.
And with tough tests still to come away at Burnley and Brighton as well as a tricky final home clash against Leicester, Kompany says the players are taking nothing for granted.
“It’s significant because it’s a derby. In the league, nothing is played out yet.
“Burnley is a difficult away game next and then Brighton and Leicester at home and there is plenty to play for both for us and Liverpool. I am happy as it was a derby and we will deal with the other games in the next days.
“We need three wins. We cannot expect the opponent to drop points.
“Wins are difficult in the Premier League, but we’ll get back into our routine and if everyone does the right thing and this team prepares well we always have a big chance to produce a good performance.”
