Pep Guardiola has selected a strong team for the game against Kitchee at the Hong Kong Stadium this afternoon.

Having named a mix of youth and senior players for our previous two tour matches, it’s a full-strength lineup this time, with Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane all starting.

New signing Rodri drops to the bench having started both games in China, with Ilkay Gundogan set to operate at the base of midfield.

Phil Foden, who joined the squad in Hong Kong on Monday after his involvement with England Under-21s this summer, is named among the substitutes

City tactics

It’s the usual 4-3-3 formation for City.

John Stones and Aymeric Laporte start together at the centre of defence for the second successive game, with Angelino and Kyle Walker providing width.

Gundogan will protect the back four, with De Bruyne and Silva pulling the strings ahead of him.

And Sterling looks set to play through the middle again, with Sane and Bernardo in support.

Guardiola will want to see the intensity of his side’s play – with and without the ball – increase from our previous tour matches. Preseason is about improving the players’ fitness levels, and he’ll want evidence of that tonight.

Pep on his immediate targets...

Always to play better, game by game. The same that we had last season – make a good training session and play good every day and don’t look far away.

“On Wednesday, it is Kitchee. Play a good game and improve from there.”
