The England right-back capped a superb fightback by Pep Guardiola’s side by firing home a dramatic 86th minute winner after Sergio Aguero had levelled Saints’ early opener.
It prompted comparisons with a similar dramatic late win against Southampton in November 2017, when Raheem Sterling struck deep into injury time.
And Walker believes Saturday’s stunning Etihad turnaround was just the latest demonstration of how City never lose heart, resolve or belief.

“First and foremost, I think we played a good game,” declared Walker.
“I think the key was our patience and persistence, also being positive. Luckily, I was there at the right time.
“They got one shot and they put it on the back of the net. That’s football. We had most of the ball possession and we caused their keeper lots problems.”
Walker’s decisive late strike was all the more important given that leaders Liverpool had secured a late 2-1 win away at Aston Villa.
The results means that the Merseysiders remain six points clear ahead of the Champions ahead of next Sunday’s crucial league clash at Anfield.
For Walker however, the key focus remains trained on our own performance and results rather than being deflected by outside issues.
“We were concentrating in our game (we weren’t keeping an eye on the Aston Villa v Liverpool game),” the England defender revealed.
“There are still so many games to play in the Premier League.
“Obviously, a lot of people talk about the title race, but anything can happen in football as you have just seen out there.
“We just need to keep doing our job, keep getting the three points and that’s all we can do really”
