Formation and possible tactics
Pep Guardiola mentioned Dinamo’s tactic of five at the back versus Atalanta on matchday 1 and it will be interesting to see if the Croats go with a similar formation this evening.
The Blues rarely tinker with the 4-3-3 line-up that has worked so well and leave it to the opposition to try and tinker with their tactics and figure how to stop the high press and relentless attacks from the men in sky blue.
That said, as with Lyon last season, Dinamo arrive as something of an unknown quantity with their 4-0 win over Atalanta impossible to assess until after this encounter.
Will Dinamo attack or sit deep – or a combination of the two? We’ll know more around 10pm this evening.
Blues look to strengthen position
With back-to-back group stage games, City know that two victories will mean the Club has one foot in the knock-out stages.
Victory over Zagreb and Atalanta would give the Blues maximum points and a terrific base to play the remaining group matches.
It would also ease the pressure on the trip to Atalanta (just before our game away to Liverpool) and Shakhtar (just after Chelsea) if the points are already in the bag.
After last season’s battle to be group winners with Lyon, Pep Guardiola will looking for the smoothest passage possible through to the last 16 – so the hard work continues tonight.
Stats and facts
Gabriel Jesus is just one goal shy of a half century for City in all competitions.
City and Dinamo have never previously met.
Pep Guardiola has managed against Dinamo before – his Bayern Munich side won 5-0 and 2-0 against them in 2015.
The Blues have won nine, drawn one and lost just one of the last 11 group stage matches.
Gabriel Jesus could become the youngest Brazilian ever (22 years and 181 days) to score 10 Champions League goals if he finds the net this evening.
Traditionally, Dinamo don’t travel well in the Champions League having drawn three and lost 12 of their last 15 away games in the competition.
