City head coach Eddie Niedzwiecki has admitted his frustration over dropped points as the Blues prepare for the pivotal week that could change the complexion of the season.

Saturday’s home game against modest Hull offers the chance to end the run of six Barclays Premier League draws that have seen City slip out of the coveted top four positions.

And a second victory of the season over Arsenal in Wednesday’s Carling Cup quarter-final would bring Wembley within sight as well as setting up perfectly the visit of pacesetters Chelsea.

Former Chelsea and Wales goalkeeper Niedzwiecki said: “It’s a big week for us - we have some massive games coming up. We’ve all been waiting so long at this club for a trophy on the table.”

“But it’s very important that we get back to winning ways. We’re very frustrated at the moment because of the draws on the board - we’ve been in winning positions and we’ve played some really good stuff at times, but individual errors have cost us.

“We’re talking about the little details, and on Saturday it happened again at Liverpool. That old adage came back to bite us - you’re most vulnerable when you’ve just scored. We’ll keep reminding the players to keep that extra bit of focus after we’ve scored.”

Mark Hughes and his coaching team will watch Hull tomorrow night knowing that the Blues must quickly regain their early-season momentum to keep pace for the Champions League places.

Eddie admitted: “We can’t let the gap get too big. We have to keep it nice and tight and see where it takes us in the New Year. What we’re looking for is continuity over the season.

“It must be remembered we’re still a new team gelling together. The game against Burnley was only the second time that back four had played together over 90 minutes.”
