Hull snatched a point after Jimmy Bullard equalised from the spot with just eight minutes to go, condemning City to a seventh successive draw in the Barclays Premier League.
Questions surrounded referee Lee Probert’s decision to award the penalty, and although frustrated Richards, returning to the side in place of Pablo Zabaleta for the first time in a month, thinks City should have sealed the game by then.
He said: “At the time the referee said it was for handball, we watched it again afterwards and the referee has pointed at his hand.
“Having looked at the video, if it was for a foul it does not look like Kolo has touched him, so it’s hard to take. But we cannot use it as an excuse, we should be scoring more than once against Hull, and that’s no disrespect to them. We didn’t do that, and it’s another disappointment for us.
“We did not create that much, but we still had plenty of chances. We were not at our best and could have scored a few. What we can’t do is dwell on this, there are two massive games coming up so we’ll just prepare for Arsenal now before thinking about Chelsea later.”
Having looked at the video, if it was for a foul it does not look like Kolo has touched him, so it’s hard to take.

Micah was frustrated that City failed to build on Shaun Wright-Phillips’ goal in first-half stoppage time, after which the Blues had the lions’ share of chances without pressing home their advantage.
“I thought we controlled the game after getting the first goal,” he added, “and I thought that would have spurred us on to get a second, but we couldn’t.
“It was a disappointing performance, we normally gel at home and make some good combinations but we didn’t do that. And to concede a very debatable goal was not great either, I don’t know if it was a handball or a foul. I didn’t think it was either, so we feel a bit hard done by.”
