Firstly, City defender Gael Clichy believes that Pep Guardiola’s men are still in the hunt for the Premier League trophy despite being seven points behind leaders Chelsea.
David Anderson in the Mirror writes: “The France defender claims City must focus on themselves and be ready to pounce if Chelsea do slip up.
“”We’re still in the title race,” he said. “Seven points is a lot, it’s a big gap and we won’t deny that.
“”We’d like to be closer or even on top. But we have seen over the years, teams dropping points for fun, teams coming back into the top four after two or three games.
“”We must take it game after game and get the points on the board. Chelsea are playing really well, as we were in the first 10 games of the season.
“”We all know in football that one morning you’re there and the next day you’re not there anymore so we have to be ready and take the opportunity when it comes.”
On the other side of Saturday’s showdown, Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum insists his teammates should be wary when they walk out at Anfield for this Saturday’s evening kick-off.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “They have a lot of good players who can score goals, even players on the bench who can come on and score goals, so I don’t think there is a big difference.
“Of course Aguero is a wonderful player and can win the game on his own for Manchester City so he’s one of the threats we have to deal with.
“But it’s not only Aguero, you also have (Kevin) De Bruyne, and (David) Silva, Sterling. You can go on with calling names.”
Finally, City midfielder Aaron Mooy, currently on loan at Huddersfield Town, has been drawing wide praise for his performances in the Championship.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, Huddersfield coach Andy Hughes believes Mooy could make the step up to Premier League football if called upon.
He said: “I think if he wants, he could be a top Premier League player. I don’t think he’d have any problem fitting into a top club — obviously we want to keep him here.
“He certainly is a top player in my eyes — watching him, he does things that I wish I could do with the ball.
“He’s fitted in straight away, brilliant with the lads and first and foremost — what a top footballer.
“He just finds it easy, he’s got that terrible habit of never giving the ball away.”
