Pep Guardiola’s side staged a stirring late fightback after falling behind early on to the Saints to first level through Sergio Aguero and then claim a priceless three points thanks to Kyle Walker’s 86th minute winner.
Not surprisingly, Sunday’s media round-up hails City’s never-say-die attitude. There’s also a handsome tribute to ‘Premier League legend’ Aguero as well as the latest slice of transfer gossip.
Plenty to warm the spirits this chilly Sunday morning then, so without further ado, let’s kick-off…

Daily Telegraph – Walker late show wins it for City
James Ducker: “There were certainly shades of the Southampton game here two years ago, when Raheem Sterling claimed a late winner that would help propel City to a first Premier League title under Guardiola.

“He celebrated then by racing on to the pitch. Only time will tell how important Walker’s intervention proves to be but, with Liverpool scoring yet another late winner themselves at Aston Villa, it certainly felt significant.
“Southampton had led through James Ward-Prowse’s early goal after a rare blunder by Ederson but, after Sergio Aguero had equalised from Walker’s pull-back, provider then turned predator.
“Angelino dug out a cross from near the left corner flag that Alex McCarthy could only palm into the path of Walker to steer home on the half volley.
“Was the Southampton goalkeeper at fault? He will probably be disappointed when he watches it back.
“It was only Walker’s third goal in 113 appearances for City, but it was vital.”
Manchester Evening News – City’s title pointer as Walker turns it round
Stuart Brennan: “Two years ago Raheem Sterling. This time his England sparring partner Kyle Walker .
“Late goals against unfancied Southampton sides are becoming part of Manchester City ’s stock when it comes to winning titles.
“Obviously there is still a long way to go, but this grim, grey, rainy day in Manchester is one of those on which the Blues might look back as crucial come May.
“The visitors, who had suffered the indignity of that 9-0 home defeat by Leicester just eight days before, went ahead through James Ward-Prowse, and clung onto it for 57 long, agonising minutes.
“And just as it seemed City were banging their heads against an impressive Saints brick wall, Kyle Walker came up with an assist for Sergio Aguero and a goal to turn it around.
“It was a goal celebrated in the same fashion as that of Sterling in 2017, when Benjamin Mendy’s crutches did not stop him joining the gleeful throng.”

Only Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, Andy Cole, Frank Lampard and Thierry Henry have scored more Premier League goals than Sergio. The Argentine is just two strikes behind Henry and four adrift of Lampard, so its likely that the City striker will become the league’s fourth lethal hitman of all-time and he may even overtake Andy Cole before May.
Already this term, Sergio has registered nine goals in ten league appearances.
Aguero isn’t just a prolific goalscorer though and he doesn’t just do it in the smaller games either. The thirty-one year old is still improving too!
Even though he’s now in his ninth season in Manchester, Sergio Aguero’s passion and desire are still there to this day and it shows no sign of abating. He still adores finding the back of the net, he’s still Manchester City’s main focal point and he still works extremely hard for his club.
That’s why Sergio Aguero is a Premier League living legend!
