Manchester City were beaten on penalties by Wolves, after 90 goalless minutes.

City started the game brightly and had early chances to go ahead.

Aymeric Laporte missed the target, minutes before Leroy Sane was fouled in the Wolverhampton penalty area. Raheem Sterling stepped up to take the spot kick, but his effort flew over the crossbar.

The second half was a more even affair, with both sides struggling to break the deadlock. David Silva came closest as his curling free kick was denied by a brilliant save from Rui Patricio.

At full-time with the score 0-0, Patricio took his solid form into a penalty shootout, making three saves and helping Wolves on their way to victory.
