Saturday 30 May 1999 is a date forever etched in Manchester City folklore.

It’s the day Joe Royle’s side secured one of our most dramatic, iconic and important victories in the Division 2 Playoff final at the old Wembley Stadium.

To mark the twentieth anniversary of the famous win against Gillingham, the class of 99 were invited to the Etihad Stadium for a celebration dinner and a chance to recreate the nail-biting penalty shootout win which sealed promotion.

More importantly, however, it was an opportunity for goal scorer Paul Dickov to roll back the years and replicate his unforgettable knee slide celebration.

It was Dickov’s 95th minute equaliser two decades ago, which sent the game to extra-time as City completed the unlikeliest of comebacks.

Royle’s side trailed 2-0 with nine minutes remaining, but Kevin Horlock pulled one back before the Scottish striker netted.

From there, Nicky Weaver was the hero as City prevailed on penalties on a truly memorable day.
