The Blues, who returned to winning ways in the FA Women’s Super League on Thursday night, visit the second-placed London outfit, eager to remain in contention in the title race.
Nick Cushing’s side currently sit five points adrift of league leaders Birmingham City Ladies and three points behind Liverpool Ladies, and the in-form Krystle Johnston in particular is keen to keep the pressure on those at the top.
“We always expect a tough game but regardless of who we’re playing, we always go out to win,” she declared.
“We haven’t had much time since the Notts County game but in the time we’ve had, we’ve prepared thoroughly for the trip to Chelsea and we know what we have to do.
“We’ve won seven of our last eight games now so we’re on a good run and we want that to continue so we can stay in touch with Birmingham and Liverpool.”
The Blues have already locked horns with the London side once this season, falling to a 3-1 defeat on that occasion in the FA Women’s Cup back in April - a setback Johnston hopes will add extra motivation to her team mates’ desire to secure three points.
“Earlier in the season, we lost to Chelsea when we played them in the cup so that makes us even more determined to win,” she asserted. “On that day, we felt a little hard done by so I don’t see any reason why we can’t get a result there if we work hard.”
Sunday’s hosts head into the clash on the back of a 2-1 win over Arsenal Ladies. Having also set up a Continental Cup semi-final tie with City after an incredible 13-0 win over London Bees last weekend, Emma Hayes’ side will be in high spirits.
