Cushing, who has been encouraging his side to play stylish, attacking football since the start of pre-season, was thrilled with the display and the result, which could easily have been double figures.
“It was great and very pleasing to get a performance in where everyone’s come off the pitch happy,” he declared.
“If we’re going to be competitive and successful in any way, we need goals from everyone – not just our strikers – and that’s what we got today.
“I’m very proud. We were totally committed in and out of possession and very aggressive, even without the ball.
“I thought our tempo when we were pressing forward and trying to score goals was excellent. We’ve spoken a lot about how we were going to play when we had the ball and the amount of chances we created shows that we were trying to make a point.”
The Blues’ next test is a friendly at home to Aston Villa and Cushing hopes his side’s exciting football can attract fans to show their support at the game.
“We want people to come and watch us and want to come back,” he asserted. “Hopefully our methodology, which promotes an attacking, attractive style, will reflect that.”
Blues striker Toni Duggan has also urged fans to attend the game to see what the club is all about. The England striker admitted she has appreciated the support the team has received over the last few months but has encouraged supporters to show it in the flesh on Sunday.
“I’m looking forward to the home game with Aston Villa,” she stated. “There’s been a lot of talk about City Women recently and we’ve had a lot of backing from the fans on social media but I think it will be good for them to come and see us in action.”
Duggan netted her first goals for City with a hat-trick at Durham and admitted that she’s ecstatic to finally get on the scoresheet for her new club.
“I’m absolutely made up,” she smiled. “In my first two games, I was frustrated that I hadn’t scored but I was delighted to score my first goals at Durham.
“To score a hat-trick was special but I’m also really happy because it was a brilliant team performance and we were due that. We’ve been working hard in training and it’s great when it pays off.
“I think the last goal was my favourite. I’d been waiting for my hat-trick goal and the girls had kept telling me I would get it. I lobbed the ‘keeper as well so that was pretty good!”
