The pair, who joined the club before the start of the 2014 campaign, believe their colleagues warrant success for their hard work over the season, with a piece of silverware providing the perfect prize.
Duggan, who already holds one cup winners’ medal from her time at Everton Ladies, hopes to use her experience to help the younger players in what will be the biggest game of the Club’s history.
“It will be a difficult test because Arsenal are always a good team whether you play them in the league or a cup final,” she asserted. “But going into a cup final, you expect a tough game regardless of what team you’re playing.
They’ve done well to get there but I think the experience of the semi-final against Chelsea shows that our girls have it in their locker to compete in such a high pressure game.
“Hopefully, we can take what we did in that game into the final. It will be hard - again, it will be on television and it will be a new occasion for some of the girls.
“I’m lucky enough to have experienced a final before but sometimes, I still get nervous so I know how they’re going to be feeling.
“It’s all of us coming together as a team and helping one another to do the best that we can.
“Hopefully, we’ll be coming away with some silverware because personally, I think we deserve it for all the hard work we’ve put in on and off the field. It would be nice for the fans as well.”
Houghton, who last week became the first woman to appear on the front cover of Shoot Magazine, will face her former club in the clash at Adams Park - but admits there will be no room for sentiment come Thursday night.
The defender lifted the trophy last season for the Gunners and wishes to replicate that feat - only this time for those in blue.
“It would mean everything - not because it’s against my old side but because I think we deserve a trophy for the way we have played in this competition,” she declared.
“We didn’t start off too well but we managed to win some big games, including the likes of Everton, Liverpool and Chelsea and we’ve proved our worth.
“We know we’re going to be playing an Arsenal team that have changed their season around as well.
“They’ve got some quality players that love to play in big finals - the likes of Kelly Smith will always pop up with a goal - and our aim is to stop those types of players.
“I’m really excited to lead the team out for the final. Fingers crossed, we can do the business.”
