Manchester City Women's pre-season campaign will begin with home friendlies against European opposition.

Ahead of the Club’s third season in the top flight, and first in the Champions League, the Blues will welcome Swedish sides FC Rosengard and Pitea IF to the Academy Stadium.

The games, which will take place on Sunday 7 February and Thursday 25 February (both 1pm), mark City’s first fixtures against European elite and Seasoncard holders of MCWFC and MCFC - plus Cityzens members - are invited to attend for FREE.

Fans will also have the opportunity to preview MCWFC’s 2016 hospitality package with a pre-match drop-in event where staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. Hospitality will open 90 minutes before kick-off, and can be accessed once you are in the stadium bowl.

Commenting on the continental challenge, Gavin Makel, Head of Women’s Football at MCWFC, said: ”In addition to three domestic competitions we take on a new challenge this year with the Champions League, and preparation for that is key.

“Playing against European sides with the level of experience of Rosengard and Pitea IF will be an excellent way to begin our pre-season.”

Swedish champions FC Rosengard, who boast arguably the world’s best player, Marta, have lifted the Damallsvenskan title a record-breaking ten times and are looking forward to visiting Manchester.

Therese Sjögran, Sporting Director, declared: “We are really pleased to have the opportunity to play against a very good side in Manchester City Women’s FC.

“We need games like this to prepare for our Champions League campaign.

“It is early in the season for us, so will be interesting to see where we are physically, and I hope we get those answers in the game.

“It will surely be a great game between two good sides.”

Pitea IF also compete in the Damallsvenskan and finished third in the 2015 season.

Leif Strandh, Sports Manager, stated: “The visit to Manchester will be an important part of our league preparations and contribute to the development of our players.

“The opportunity to play a match against a Club such as City is exciting and we are very much looking forward to it.”

MCFC Seasoncard holders and Cityzens members can claim their FREE tickets to the game online here, while MCWFC Seasoncard holders will receive their complimentary tickets through the post.

Non Seasoncard holders can purchase tickets for this match at £3 for adults and £1 for U16s.
