Nick Cushing’s side suffered a blow to our FA Women’s Super League title hopes with a late defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, condemning the Cup double winners to our fourth defeat of the campaign.

The result left City in third place in the table – three points behind Champions Arsenal and two behind Chelsea – but Scott refused to give up hope of a second league crown.
Following FA Cup and Continental Cup success, City’s memorable 2019 comes to an end on Sunday with the visit of Brighton and Hove Albion, and with Cushing’s side still on course to retain our silverware and challenge on all three domestic fronts, the England star asserts the team are determined to taste glory once more.
“I still believe in this squad,” she stated. “We had a good run before the Chelsea defeat – we have to get back to that against Brighton.
“A win would have given us an injection of belief going into our next game, but we’ll have to find that from somewhere else.
“I know people say the league comes down to head-to-heads against competitors but I don’t believe they do.
“You have to have consistency throughout and all games are difficult. There are no easy games – one team can be beaten heavily one weekend and pull it back the week after.”
City’s final clash of the year sees Cushing’s side host Hope Powell’s Brighton, having registered a 100% record against the Seagulls with four impressive victories, including 6-0 and 7-1 triumphs last season.
However, Scott refuses to entertain the prospect of complacency, declaring City cannot afford to drop points, and warned of the qualities former England boss Powell instils into her teams.
“She’s a top manager and we know every game is competitive,” she said.
“It will be difficult against Hope Powell’s team. We know they’ll be organised.
“We need to bounce back with three points before the Christmas break.”
City host Brighton and Hove Albion at 12:30pm on Sunday 15 December in the FA Women’s Super League with tickets for all home matches available to buy online or at the Etihad Stadium Ticket Office.
