City secured a 3-0 win over West Ham United in the FA Women’s Cup final at Wembley Stadium, courtesy of second-half goals from Keira Walsh, Georgia Stanway and Lauren Hemp.
The FA Women’s Cup win sees Nick Cushing’s side complete an astounding cup double this season.
Playing in a game at Wembley Stadium, the home of English football, is something special in itself but scoring in a cup final upon your first time inside the ground, that is something else.
After the game scorer of the final goal, Lauren Hemp, admitted that it was the first time that she had been to the stadium and that she would cherish these memories for a lifetime.
Struggling to speak due to her excitement, Hemp described the incredible emotions that she felt after scoring the third and final goal for City.
“It’s really exciting. I’m quite speechless for words. It’s an amazing experience and one that I have never had before.
“I’ve never been to Wembley before so having the opportunity to get on the pitch for a few minutes and then to score as well was amazing for me.”
The match saw a record 43,264 fans in attendance for an FA Women’s Cup final at Wembley and Hemp felt in awe at the amount of people that had turned out to see her and her team mates lift the trophy.
“I’m overwhelmed. When I first came on the pitch and I saw how many people there were I just thought ‘wow’.
“I never thought i’d play in front of this many people before and to score and all of these people to see it and all of the people watching on TV to see it too was amazing.”
Stanway netted City’s second of the game with a drilled effort with ten minutes of normal time remaining.
Reflecting on the effort, she admitted it was a moment she had dreamed of since a young age.
“It’s unbelievable,” she smiled. “To get the win tops off an incredible day.
“Everybody wishes to be part of the FA Cup Final and we got the opportunity. We’re so grateful to be here.
“I’ve dreamed about that moment (scoring at Wembley) so many times.
“I think I tried too hard at times today but thankfully, it came off in the end and it topped off the day nicely.”
