Manchester City have completed the signing of Portuguese right-back Matilde Fidalgo.

The 25-year-old, who arrives from SC Braga, will officially join the Club on 1 July and is a cousin of Bernardo Silva on their great-grandparents’ side.

Fidalgo began her career in 2009 at Benfica, before signing for cross-city rivals Sporting Lisbon in 2017, ahead of her switch to Braga, who she won the 2018/19 league title with.

The defender has won 43 caps at international level and follows in the footsteps of Ellen White to become Nick Cushing’s second signing of the summer.

“It feels like a dream come true,” she told CityTV.

“I was overwhelmed when I heard it was going to be a reality.

“I’m really happy to be here. The league is super competitive and that’s something I was looking for.

“The team is huge. Everyone knows how big Manchester City is and I’m really happy to be here.”
