On this day in 2017, Manchester City secured the services of defender Benjamin Mendy.

The defender joined from Monaco having played a vital role alongside future City teammate Bernardo Silva in Les Monégasques’ first Ligue 1 title in 17 years.

Since then, the French international has played 73 times for City, getting his hands on every available domestic honour, including three Premier League crowns.

Mendy’s surging runs and searching balls in from the left have demonstrated his ability to add a new dimension to City’s attacks, but he also managed to get himself on the scoresheet for the first time during the 2020-21 campaign.

The defender swept home a delightful volley from a tight angle in our 5-0 win over Burnley in November 2020, before doubling his tally for the Club with a crucial opener against Leicester in April.

A hugely popular figure in the dressing room, whether it be in training or out on the pitch itself, our flying full-back is likely to have an infectious smile etched across his face!
