With trophies for our Men’s, Women’s, EDS and Academy teams, the Club has achieved success right across the board.
And there was a swathe of incredible matches across 2022, including dramatic comebacks, title wins and emphatic victories.
As the curtain fell on another year, we’ve looked at 10 of the best City matches from January through to December.
But which fixtures have we selected?
Read below to find out!
Arsenal 1-2 City: Premier League – 1 January
The late, late show in London…
Pep Guardiola’s side kicked off the New Year with a hair-raising victory at the Emirates Stadium over Arsenal.
After finding ourselves one down at half-time following Bukayo Saka’s strike, the game drastically changed in two second half minutes.
In the 57th minute, Riyad Mahrez equalised from the penalty spot after Bernardo Silva was fouled by Granit Xhaka with the aid of VAR.
Gabriel was then sent off for the hosts two minutes later for a second bookable offence.
Tempers were flaring in the capital and the temperature reached boiling point when Rodri scored a stoppage time winner to hand City three points.
The victory extended our lead at the top of the Premier League to 11 points.
City 3-1 Chelsea Women: Continental Cup Final – 5 March
City’s first piece of silverware of 2022 came in March’s Continental Cup final between Gareth Taylor’s side and Chelsea.
We had to come from a goal down to reign victorious after Sam Kerr had given Emma Hayes’ side the lead.
But after the interval we were a different team and flipped the tie on its head thanks to Caroline Weir’s brace either side of an Ellen White strike.
The Scotland international’s first came when she showed her poacher’s instinct to find space in the box and tap home Georgia Stanway’s cut-back.
It took only nine minutes later for City to take the lead when Lauren Hemp nicked possession outside Chelsea’s box and tested Ann-Katrin Berger who palmed the ball into the path of White who hit home.
Then with 20 minutes remaining we pulled further ahead when a well-worked corner routine from Stanway and Lucy Bronze allowed Weir to break free from her marker to coolly side foot into the net.
The success ended a three-year wait for City to lift the trophy and raised our haul of Women’s League Cups to four.
Leeds 1-3 City EDS: Premier League 2 – 22 April
City knew avoiding defeat at Elland Road would see us retain our PL2 crown.
But, with the hosts needing three points to boost their survival hopes, it was no easy task with Leeds breaking the deadlock through Mateo Joseph.
The Whites’ lead didn’t last long though as Kayky drove down the wing and beautifully curled into the bottom corner two minutes later to nullify their advantage.
And we didn’t look back from there.
Brian Barry-Murphy’s side fired into the lead shortly after when Cole Palmer cut onto his favoured left foot and whipped a venomous effort past Kirstoffer Klaesson in the Leeds’ goal.
In what was an electric affair that ebbed and flowed, Liam Delap’s strike that trickled into the net on the cusp of stoppage time secured City the points and the title for a second consecutive season.
City 4-3 Real Madrid: Champions League – 26 April
City and Real Madrid produced a Champions League classic during the first semi-final leg in April.
Guardiola’s side made the perfect start when Riyad Mahrez danced down the wing and found Kevin De Bruyne’s well-timed late run into the box, before the Belgian acrobatically headed home.
Things got better nine minutes later when De Bruyne turned provider to cross towards Gabriel Jesus who made the most of David Alaba’s mistake to fire home.
But, as we came to expect from Carlo Ancelotti’s side, the Spaniards never gave up – pulling a goal back through Karim Benzema.
The second half began in the same high intensity fashion as Foden restored our two-goal lead when he headed home Fernandinho’s cross.
However, our two-goal advantage lasted only three minutes as Vinicius Junior broke clear of City’s defence to calmly slot low past Ederson, before Silva gave us a commanding double advantage by firing into the top corner with 15 minutes remaining.
The La Liga giants still hadn’t downed tools and it was Benzema who nonchalantly chipped a penalty into the net to make the final score 4-3 to Guardiola’s side – with Real’s third goal proving ultimately decisive in the reverse fixture.
City 6-0 Birmingham: Women’s Super League – 4 May
City took a giant step towards European qualification by hitting Birmingham for six in our penultimate league fixture of the season.
After a relatively nervy and closely contested first half ended goalless, we were fast out the blocks and raced into 3-0 lead by the 64th minute.
A Georgia Stanway brace, either side of Lauren Hemp’s goal, gave us a commanding lead.
Alanna Kennedy, Chloe Kelly and Laura Coombs then got in on the act to give us a resounding victory.
The victory saw us leapfrog Manchester United to third place with one match to go – a position we maintained to secure Women’s Champions League football.
Southampton Under-18s 1-2 City – National Under-18s PL Final – 18 May
Our third trophy of 2022 was obtained on the south coast as City came from a goal down to beat Southampton Under-18s.
Kamari Doyle had given the hosts the lead in the 16th minute when he broke into the box and expertly curled into the bottom corner in front of a crowd of 13,035.
But two goals in 10 first half minutes swung the pendulum in our favour as Tai Sodje and Dire Medube both slotted home to give us the advantage going into the break.
And it was one we never let up as we controlled the second half to retain the Under-18 Premier League National title at St Mary’s Stadium.
City 3-2 Aston Villa: Premier League – 22 May
City staged another dramatic comeback on the final day of the Premier League season to retain our crown in an epic victory over Aston Villa.
Pep Guardiola’s side looked in danger of handing over the trophy to Liverpool midway through the second half when the Villans took a 2-0 lead midway through the second half.
But Ilkay Gundogan inspired us to victory with his brace either side of Rodrigo’s tremendous strike sent the Etihad Stadium into ecstasy.
The German international’s first came when he headed home Raheem Sterling’s cross, before the Spaniard levelled the scores with a low piledriver from distance.
Then the roof lifted off the stadium when De Bruyne whipped a trademark cross to the back post for Gundogan to tap home.
City 4-2 Crystal Palace: Premier League – 27 August
Crystal Palace have often been a thorn in City’s side at the Etihad with the Eagles winning two, drawing one and losing one of their last four visits to Manchester.
And it looked as if Patrick Vieira’s side would get the better of us once again when they fired into a 2-0 lead before half-time.
However, this time around we had Erling Haaland in our ranks.
After Bernardo Silva had given City a lifeline the Norwegian showed his quality with a thunderous hat-trick in 19 minutes to secure three points.
City 6-3 Manchester United: Premier League – 2 October
In the 188th Manchester derby, City produced a scorching display to claim bragging rights at the Etihad.
In a barnstorming first half, Haaland and Phil Foden both bagged braces with Guardiola’s side racing into a 4-0 lead at half-time.
Both of our attackers would then go on to seal hat-tricks in front of a jubilant and packed-out stadium in the second half which rendered Antony’s curling effort and Anthony Martial’s late double all-but meaningless.
City 1-1 Manchester United Women: Women’s Super League – 11 December
City played out an enthralling draw with Manchester United in front of a Club record crowd for a women’s match at the Etihad.
An impressive 44,259 supporters packed into the stadium to witness the derby between Gareth Taylor’s side and our local rivals.
And it was the visitors who took the lead when Leah Galton’s deflected effort squirmed its way into the back off the net.
City were in need of a creative spark in the second half to give the fans a lift and Laura Coombs delivered just that.
Lauren Hemp floated a teasing ball into the box which was allowed to bounce before Coombs produced a diving header to draw the hosts level.
Following our equaliser the match was played at a frighteningly quick pace as both sides pushed for a winner, but to no avail as the spoils were shared on a record-breaking day.
