“It is a fantastic stadium - everyone knows it. The atmosphere and the attractive football they play. When I was here in Germany, I played against Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuckel and it was top.

“Fantastic atmosphere and stadium - happy to come back here. Three years ago we came back in COVID times. It was one of my best times at Manchester City, when we won here and went to the Champions League semi-final.

“We know how difficult it will be. Medium block, ability to counter, or more aggressive. It will be a tough, tough game, we know it.

“We are already qualified and this is the most important thing, especially with the World Cup, but we feel it is important to finish on top of the group.”

“It will be my first time in this stadium. It makes the game better. For every player to play in this kind of environment, it is what we want to play on the big stages and big games.

“It will be special for all of us. I hope we can win first of all and I hope we can put on a good show.”

PREVIOUS MEETING

City fans won’t have to cast their minds too far back to recollect our last meeting with Edin Terzic’s side.

In what was our second group game of the 2022/2023 season, we followed our opening fixture success over Sevilla with a dramatic 2-1 success over Tuesday’s opponent in September at the Etihad Stadium.  

After a goalless first half, England international Jude Bellingham opened the scoring for the visitors. A lead they held onto until the final 10 minutes before John Stones took centre stage.

City’s centre-back unleashed an outstanding strike from the edge of the box that flew past Alexander Meyer and into the top corner to level the scores.

Then, only four minutes later, Erling Haaland bagged against his former employers to make it back-to-back victories at the beginning of our European campaign.

Joao Cancelo whipped a delightful ball towards the back post with the outside of his boot, before the 22-year-old showcased his outstanding athletic ability with an incredible aerial strike.

LAST TIME OUT

We bounced back perfectly from our first defeat of the 2022/2023 Premier League season to Liverpool with a 3-1 home success against Brighton & Hove Albion.

A first half Haaland double gave us a commanding lead at the break to bring his goal tally for this season to 22 Club goals in all competitions.

The Seagulls then came quickly out the blocks after the interval, with Leandro Trossard pulling a goal back for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

And after sustained Albion pressure, Kevin De Bruyne secured three points with a delightful curling effort from outside the box, as we applied pressure on league leaders Arsenal.

Last time out in the UEFA Champions League, we drew 0-0 away with Copenhagen which secured our progress into the knockout stages of the competition thanks to Dortmund’s draw with Sevilla.

As for Dortmund, our hosts won 5-0 against Stuttgart at home, with Bellingham scoring a brace.

FORM GUIDE

City currently sit top of Group G in the Champions League on 10 points, one place and three points above our German opponents.

In four European games, we’ve won three and drawn one, whereas Dortmund have won two, lost one and drawn one.

In domestic action, we’re currently second in the Premier League table after a run of eight wins, two draws and one loss in 11 games.

Dortmund sit fifth in the Bundesliga table.
