Pep Guardiola has made nine changes to the side that defeated Wycombe 6-1 in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup third round tie at the Etihad.
Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden keep their starting places, with Ederson, Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, Joao Cancelo, Rodrigo, Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish and Gabriel Jesus all coming back into Guardiola’s XI.
Zack Steffen, Ferran Torres, Romeo Lavia, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling, all of whom started on Tuesday, drop to the bench.
John Stones returns to the squad after an injury absence. His last game came for England in Poland on September 8.
However, Ilkay Gundogan and Oleksandr Zinchenko both miss out through injury.
LAST TIME OUT
City thrashed Wycombe Wanderers 6-1 in the Carabao Cup, while Chelsea beat Aston Villa on penalties at Stamford Bridge in the same competition.
LAST MEETING
The two teams met three times in the final weeks of the 2020/21 campaign in three different competitions.
Chelsea won all three meetings, first in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, then a Premier League win at the Etihad before edging the Champions League final 1-0 at the Estádio do Dragão in Portugal.
Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the game on 42 minutes.
