PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW
“Since the one defeat [in 2017], we have had better results away from home. Last season we couldn’t win at home. But we try to do our best.
“Since I arrived Everton always took results here, I don’t know why. Maybe because they are good. We have to be ready.
“I have huge respect for Sean [Dyche] and all he has done. The way he plays, the belief in the players he has.”
Team News
City make four changes for today’s Premier League clash with Everton at the Etihad.
John Stones, Matheus Nunes, Jeremy Doku and Manuel Akanji all come into the starting eleven to face the Toffees from the team that beat Brentford 3-1 on Monday.
Kyle Walker, Josko Gvardiol Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva are the quartet who revert to the bench.
For Swiss defender Akanji it marks a first return to the City starting line up since being forced off with an ankle injury in last month’s FA Cup third round win at home to Huddersfield.
With City facing seven games in total across a hectic February schedule, manager Pep Guardiola has again utilised the quality and options at his disposal to both seek to overcome Sean Dyche’s side and look to keep the squad fit and refreshed.
Teams
CITY XI: Ederson, Akanji, Dias (c), Stones, Ake, Rodrigo, Nunes, Foden, Alvarez, Doku, Haaland
Subs: Ortega, Walker, Gvardiol, Lewis, Grealish, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Bobb, Wright
EVERTON XI: Pickford, Godfrey, Tarkowski (C), Branthwaite, Mykolenko, Young, Garner, Gana, McNeil, Harrison, Calvert-Lewin
Subs: Virginia, Patterson, Keane, Onana, Beto, Coleman, Chermiti, Hunt, Dobbin
PREVIOUS MEETING
Our last home encounter with Everton ended as a 1-1 draw back in December 2022, after Erling Haaland’s opener was cancelled out by Demarai Gray.
In the reverse fixture earlier this season, we staged a stirring second half fightback as goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez (penalty) and Bernardo Silva helped secure a priceless 3-1 win and move us into the top four of the Premier League.
LAST TIME OUT
Phil Foden hit his second career hat-trick to seal a 3-1 comeback victory at Brentford and move Manchester City within two points of the Premier League summit last Monday.
As for Sean Dyche’s side, they fought hard for a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
