Opposing manager - Okan buruk
Buruk enjoyed a successful playing career which spanned nearly two decades.
After managerial spells with the Turkey national team, Elazigspor, Gaziantepspor, Sivasspor, Goztepe, Akhisarspor, Rizespor and Istanbul Basaksehir, the former midfielder was appointed as head coach at Galatasaray in 2022.
In his debut season, Buruk guided Galatasaray to a record-breaking 14 consecutive league wins, the longest winning streak in the club’s history.
Galatasaray secured the 2022/23 Super League title two weeks before the end of the season, marking Buruk’s second league championship as a manager and the club’s 23rd overall.
The team also finished the season with the best attacking and defensive records, scoring 83 goals and conceding just 27 across 36 matches.
The team also clinched the 2023/24 Super Lig title, their second consecutive league championship under Buruk.
This also marked Galatasaray’s record-breaking 24th Super Lig title, solidifying their status as Turkey’s most successful club in the league.
Despite a challenging start to the 2024/25 season, Galatasaray bounced back with consistent performances, including a record-breaking streak of 15 consecutive away wins.
On 14 May 2025, they defeated Trabzonspor 3-0 in the final of the Turkish Cup, before clinching the Super Lig title just days later.
Danger Men
Mauro Icardi is the Super Lig side’s current top goal scorer with a total of nine from 17 games.
The Argentinian international and Galatasaray captain will be one the City defence should keep a close eye on.
Not only will he be a threat in front of goal, but his experience and contributions to back-to-back Super Lig titles are not to go unnoticed.
Baris Alper Yilmaz is also the Turkish side’s top assist maker with seven in 16 games.
The 25-year-old will be a big threat on the left wing and no doubt looking to swing the ball into the Argentine striker.
The game could also see a familiar name in Ilkay Gundogan who departed the club in the summer as well as former City star Leroy Sane.
Pep Guardiola preview
“I prefer to have more [points] but it is what we deserve. We need to focus and try to win our game then see what position we finish,” the boss pointed out.
“We’ll see the result in the last 10 minutes and then we will see [what we have to do]. We have to focus on our game, that’s the key.
“We will try to win tomorrow. Galatasaray is leading the Turkish league and all their players are exceptional.
“The quality they have. Osimhen is a top-class player. They link with him. Leroy [Sane] and both wingers are so quick. Gundo, Lemina, are experienced players.
“Galatasaray are one of the biggest clubs and they always have good players.
“We have to make an incredible effort with our fans.
“Every culture is different. Never we face against Turkish teams away. I would love to go there. We went for an historic night but I would love to go to Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, Besiktas.
“What I expect is people come tomorrow and support us.”

Last time out
City played out a 2-0 victory over bottom place Wolves at the Etihad Stadium.
First-half goals from Omar Marmoush and Antoine Semenyo swung the Premier League victory in our favour to narrow the gap with Arsenal.
It was the ideal response from the Blues after suffering defeats to Bodo/Glimt and Manchester United.
Previous meeting
This will be the first time the two sides have ever met in a competitive match.
