PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW
Guardiola has stated his desire to use January’s relaxed schedule to City’s advantage on the training field.
“We have more time to train and remember things that you cannot do normally,” he explained.
“Normally you have to do things we don’t have time to do it in the busy schedule. Same time we don’t lose what we do every single day.
“I think the Premier League took a great decision. To make it intense on Boxing Day and Christmas time like it’s always been.
“Then in January make a break for the teams. Especially playing European competitions. It helps us in February a little bit fresh mentally. It is what it is.
“In the past there were more games and we did it and we won a lot even in the tough period. It’s good now with the FA Cup to retain the title and arrive as far as possible.
“After, we have a really important game with Newcastle then refresh. After we have two weeks to refresh, especially our minds.”
SQUAD UPDATE
The boss says Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Kevin De Bruyne are feeling much better but says City will be careful with their return to the team.
“They are ready, the last two or three training sessions with us,” the boss said in his pre-match news conference. “Jeremy feels really good, Kevin as well.
“Kevin was a long time [out] so we have to think about his condition. We have to be patient and exactly give him the right minutes.
“Erling is a little better, his bone so we need to be careful, [he’s had] two or three sessions and feels good.
“Hopefully [they will be able to play soon but], I don’t know for Sunday or for Newcastle, but for the rest they will be ready.”
PREVIOUS MEETING
The last time we faced Huddersfield Town, we ran out 3-0 victors at the John Smith’s Stadium in the Premier League 2018/19 season. Danilo’s long range effort opened the scoring in the first half, before Raheem Sterling’s header and a Leroy Sane finish put the game to bed.
LAST TIME OUT
A solo goal from Rodrigo and a Julian Alvarez tap in from a Phil Foden cross saw us run out 2-0 winners at the Etihad against bottom of the table Sheffield United.
