TEAM NEWS

City make one change for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final at home to Liverpool.

Marc Guéhi comes into Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven for the Etihad clash with the Anfield side.

From the side that began our Carabao Cup final win against Arsenal last time out, Nathan Ake reverts to the bench.

Otherwise, the boss sticks with the players who overcame the Gunners at Wembley to lift the first trophy of the season.

Josko Gvardiol, John Stones and Ruben Dias are all unavailable for selection through injury.

Teams

CITY XI: Trafford, Nunes, Khusanov, Guéhi, O’Reilly, Rodrigo, Bernardo (C), Semenyo, Cherki, Doku, Haaland.

Subs: Donnarumma, Reijnders, Ake, Marmoush, Kovacic, Nico, Ait-Nouri, Savinho, Foden.

LIVERPOOL:  Mamardashvili, Gomez, Van Dijk, Konate, Kerkez, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Jones, Salah, Wirtz, Ekitike

Subs: Woodman, Mac Allister, Chiesa, Gakpo, Robertson, Frimpong, Nyoni, Morrison, Ngumoha

Pep Guardiola preview

The City boss held a press conference on Friday and spoke about the rivalry with Liverpool.

“I have said many times, it has been the biggest rival,” said Pep.

“It’s a team that made an incredible investment last season to be there for many, many years.

“It’s in the Champions League. It’s a top contender with top class players all of them and hopefully we perform the level like we did against Arsenal to make the next step.”

DANGER MEN

After spending on attacking talent Hugo Ekitike over the summer, Liverpool’s fortunes have paid off with most of their goalscoring threat coming from the newcomer.

The Frenchman began the season by scoring in the Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace and again on Matchday one of the Premier League season.

Following his goal against West Ham in Liverpool’s 5-2  win over the Hammers , he is now up to a total of 17 goals and six assists across all competitions this season.

With the 23-year-old being allowed to showcase his versatility on many occasions - something City will have to keep a close eye on.

Dominik Szoboszlai has become Liverpool’s main man this season, scoring his 12th goal of the season against Galatasaray, with eight assists to his name.

His energy, quality and consistency in whatever position he is asked to play alongside his Champions League form in particular has been impressive.

Previous meeting

City scored twice in the closing stages at Anfield to earn a 2-1 Premier League victory over Liverpool.

Bernardo Silva and an Erling Haaland penalty snatched victory from the jaws of defeat after Dominik Szoboszlai’s unstoppable 74th minute free kick.

Rayan Cherki thought he had City’s third deep in stoppage time when rolling the ball in from the halfway line.

Instead, his effort was chased by Szoboszlai and Haaland, resulting in a red card for the Hungarian.

Last time out

Nico O’Reilly’s second-half double was the decisive factor on a special outing at Wembley as City won the League Cup for a ninth time with a 2-0 win over Arsenal.

The 21-year-old Academy graduate was the hero from left-back, getting into the box twice in five minutes to head home and ensure an unforgettable occasion.
