Still just 21, Cole Palmer is enjoying perhaps the best education football can offer.

The young winger, a Manchester-born Academy graduate who joined City at under-8 level, has already been part of two Premier League successes plus the FA Cup and Champions League wins of last season.

Having dominated youth football, Palmer‘s dribbling ability and eye for a long range shot would have caught the eye of any manager in the world.

It just so happens that he has come through the ranks at City when Pep Guardiola is overseeing the Club’s most successful period in our history.

With Phil Foden already a key part of the team and Rico Lewis joining the senior group in the last 12 months, the Academy representation in the squad of the Treble winners is strong.

While 2022/23 may not have included Palmer on the pitch as much as he may have hoped, he is seeing first hand what it takes to be an attacking player in an all-conquering team designed to control matches.

The England U21 international played 25 times in the season just gone, to a total of 850 minutes.

Many of those games include late substitute appearances, although he did have a key role to play in cup victories over some of the biggest sides in the country.

After ten showings off the bench, Palmer started two games in a week against Sevilla and Chelsea in the Champions League and Carabao Cup respectively in early November.

He featured in central roles as City came through both games with comprehensive victories.

After the World Cup break, he moved to the wing for the thrilling Carabao Cup win over Liverpool and the 4-0 FA Cup of Chelsea at the Etihad.

He featured throughout our run to the final of the FA Cup but by this point Guardiola had settled on an XI for a long run of victories in the Premier League and Champions League.

Palmer started on the left wing in the first game after our third successive title was confirmed. It just so happened to again be against Chelsea.

This time his direct opponent was the vastly experienced Cesar Azpilicueta.

However, our youngster’s turn of pace had the Spain international all at sea throughout the game as Palmer provided the assist for Julian Alvarez to score the only goal on the day.

The early title gave him another two games to make his mark before experiencing the historic FA Cup and Champions League final victories from the bench.

Palmer will forever be known as part of the Treble winning squad and is now hoping to add more historic achievements to that over the course of the long career to come.
