Having put pen to paper on a new long-term deal, the goalkeeper declared helping City claim Europe’s top prize for the first time was his primary objective for the remainder of his time at the Etihad Stadium.
The renewed terms keep the Brazilian at the Club until the summer of 2026 and he hopes that during that period he will be able to avenge last season’s defeat to Chelsea.
Ederson played a pivotal role in City’s run to the final in Porto and, though painful, he believes Pep Guardiola’s side can come back stronger from the 1-0 loss against Thomas Tuchel’s men.
“My main focus is to be able to reach the final of the Champions League again [and] to be champion this time,” he told mancity.com after committing his future to the Club.
“We had the pleasure of playing a Champions League final for the first time and unfortunately we ended up losing.
“It was a very hard blow for everyone, but I also think it was a great experience for many players. I think it also served as an experience to become a more mature team.
“We learned more about playing in the Champions League knockout stages. We played very well and in the final we didn’t manage to be so well, but we created some chances and that was a lesson for us because it was a very hard blow.
“So, I hope to get back to the Champions League final again.”
Ederson has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world during his four years at the Etihad Stadium.
During that time, he has won every trophy on offer in England as well as a Copa America with Brazil and, as a result, he feels he is now playing with greater maturity.
However, there is no chance of our No.31 relaxing due to his success, with the 28-year-old admitting he is continually striving to improve and identifying areas of his game he can work on in order to become a more complete goalkeeper.
“I feel more experienced and more mature,” he said as he reflected on his time at City.
“Of course, over the years you will gain a lot of experience, even more working in a team like ours, playing the championships that I can play today.
“I’m more experienced than yesterday for sure because each day is a learning experience, each day you learn something new, each day you have something more that you can improve.
“Every day I see that I have to evolve a little more, I have to improve something like a short pass, a long pass or a ball out, a defence or rebound.
“I reflect a lot on that kind of thing.”
